Women outside the Legion?

Wish I had a cool name9

First time out of the vault
A lot the arguments against Caesar are made about his treatment of women but are things really better for women in Vegas or outside the NCR army and Shady Sands. In Vegas its perfectly acceptable to sell your daughter as a slave to the Omertas, the Brahmin Barons are men as are the leaders of the Vegas families except for the Cannibals, the only picture of NCR family involves domestic violence to the degree that the wife sees being sold as a slave as an improvement.

Before anyone starts I'm not saying that life is good in anyway for women or anyone in the Legion. What I'm saying is its not any worse, do you really think that the Brahmin Barons who beat their farmers are nicer to their wives than Legion officers.

Also I imagine the somewhat egalitarian origins of the NCR military will be lost as their vault dweller heritage is further and further lost with the amalgamation of other societies into the NCR.

Were is it even stated that family life in the NCR is like that?

There are various characters that talk about having fairly normal family lifes (one of the Outcasts even seems to be a momma's boy), also the Omertas are thugs on the Mojave region, the laws of the NCR don't apply to them (that's why Moore covertly sends you to stop their plans) and most Brahmin Barons are corrupt and fuck over people equally regardless of sex.

Also there are violent people on every civilization, there are also a lot of women in positions of Power in the NCR, like the late Tandi, the aforementioned Moore, Alice McLafferty, Julie Farkas and a lot of female officers in charge of large platoons.

Your mixing up the NCR and Vegas, the Omertas are given free reign over the Gomorra by House so I don't think you can say their outlaws, thugs yes, but within Houses laws.

Julie Farkas
The followers are pretty out of place for many reasons, they don't count and they don't have much power.

You didn't read what I wrote, I said that the NCR MILITARY is egalitarian, I just don't think it will last with all the new territories that are being brought in.

They were in F3.

most Brahmin Barons are corrupt and fuck over people equally regardless of sex.
But their all men.

First, that's why I said they were thugs, but they are out of the jurisdiction of the NCR, so having them as a reflection of life in the NCR is dumb.

I said Outcasts sorry I mean the Misfits, are a group of NCR soldiers in camp Golf.

Also is THEY ARE for one, and 2 the fact that they are men doesn't make every bad thing they do be misogynist or even reflect on the overall nature of the NCR. Alice McLafferty is the leader of the Crimson Caravan and she pulls just as much dirty stuff as the male Brahmin Barons.

Mostly because you explictly said that family life in the NCR is somehow implied to be just domestic violence and misogingy.

There are independent towns in Vegas with women on important roles, Trudy is basically the leader of Goodsprings, the people in Novac are of both genders and they mostly live from scavenging and the like, Boone's wife was sold by a very evil woman. And in general women in the Mojave have more oportunities than those in the Legion, you find a lot of female caravaneers, mercs and regular travelers. Also neither the White Gloves or the Chairmen indulge in prostitution, that's the Omerta's gig.

There are also male protitues in vegas, Santiago, Jimmy, Old Ben and all of those male strippers in Omerta.

I don't even see your point, life in the wasteland is awful for everyone regardless of gender, but most people in the mojave and NCR lands tend to have more oportunities at life than any woman in the Legion ever would.

The family in Cottonwood Cove is said to have a bad father or at least a coward. Based on 1950's gender roles you could expect mysoginy in the NCR, but until we see it we can't prove it and talking about it is a waste of time.

As for the Legion, for all we know, wives could be treated well by wasteland standards and its only the enslaved women that are treated like trash. Roman family lives were normal by our standards. Its actually where we get the western ideal of family life is ancient Rome.

As for other places, it would depend on the culture. I'd expect Mormons to try to maintain gender roles in more stable areas or Utah. Military and Vault descendants would be more egalitarian. And tribals would do their own thing depending on what their circumstances are.
