So does anyone watch this show? Anyone seen it? Some of you have probably seen the pilot episode on ebaumsworld, but the TV version is much creepier. When I saw the pilot, I found some parts funny (the hot dog factory), but I thought there was too much defecation humor…not a big fan of that. Then a couple of months later our Media Studies professor showed us the full length “Ocean” episode. Some parts really made me uncomfortable; I guess I just wasn’t use to seeing kids being displayed on TV in this manner. Unfortunately, I watch a lot of TV during the late hours of the night and it just so happens that MT2 sometimes shows 2 to 3 episodes during this time. So I just turned into Leontius from Plato’s Republic and couldn’t look away. I have to admit I have become addicted to the show and now I Tivo every episode. Hmmm, what will this do to my brain?
I use to think that South Park is kind of on the same level as this show, but I think I’ve changed my mind. South Park has become just too obvious in its humor and social criticism/satire. Wonder Showzen is much more subtle in its underlying messages and its humor is based more on shocking the audience rather then just disgusting them.
For those of you who have seen the TV version, what do you think? Could you watch it totally unfazed from the start? I have a friend who loved the pilot on Ebaunmsworld and was very excited when I brought him a tape of the TV version. But after we watched like 2 episodes he couldn’t handle it anymore and said he doubts he’ll ever want to see other episodes. Hehe, he hasn’t spoken to me in days, but maybe he’s just busy with finals. I’ll have to wait and see if he’ll go through the same transition as me.
The Official site has some clips available, but I couldn’t get them to work.
