I'm not sure about the proper name for these things, but I've been looking into World war 2 reenactments. There's not a lot of this in Sweden or Europe in general it seems, but plenty of it in the United States, if I'm not mistaken. I golt kinda fascinated by the youtube videos people have posted, mostly by the attention to realism and historically correct equipment, and so on. Some people have even built tanks based on old models.

So does anyone here know more about this? And if there are any good communities? I'd like to know more, seems pretty cool.

you should keep an eye on east europe, there are quite a lot of it in poland, russia and such. Lots of professinal reenactors even which have played the "Axis" in movies and such.

I think they also have in the french tank museum in Samur always a show around WW2 tanks and equipment

there are quite a few groups around it many in the east of europe. A quick google search helps ;) !

PANZERFAUST! PANZERFAUST!

I would say LARP is a fitting word. It's live action and they are role playing.

Also, those guys did a bang-up job with those tanks. Nifty stuff.

no "LARP" is not a word that fitts it very well in my eyes.

life action role playing might fitt just from the describtion cause you play a role but I think many would see that in a way like the usual nerds fighting paper dragons which definetly is not the case with professional Historical reenactment which has usualy a different target then "LARP". Of course without the ention to discuss sematics here now it is a form of roleplaying. But I just dont know since those people runing around on you tube with paper swords it somewhat has a bad taste when you say it in the same line with the professional people.

Where is the Roman Legion reenactors who go around burning down towns in Wales?

as for WW2.....we had one of those about a month ago.

It won't take long for Ashmo to show up in this thread and bitch about serious reenactment being titled "LARP".

I'd personally rather not see my countrie's darkest years as a pasttime amusement (have to think of George Carlin: "Civil war reenactors? Use live ammunition, will you?"), but that's just me. They deserve some respect for the sheer expense of time and research invested for sure.
I think a huge part of it is entertaiment, of course. But I also think the part about education is important as well. Many people have no interest in history but if you can help to educate at least somewhat people and get them interested that way cause they see it as a show thats maybe a good thing. That we are not talking here about a reenactment of "concentration camps" or a genocide is obvious (there are different ways how to educate people about that). The better shows usualy have a large focus on historical accuracy. Sometimes the target of such reenactments is as well to eventualy simulate the behaviour of people in that time, how was it to stay in some area for 1 week, sleep in a tend, in the cold, or heat with all conditions just how they have been in that time. Not a real reenactment but a bit similar situation I think. 2 scientists tried to cross the alps just like the early prehistoric humans did it eventualy to see if it was possible and in Germany there is a small village somewhere which was build as close as possible with the known informations to a German village around the time of the roman empire and people tried to spend some time there. This kind of lived history sometimes helps a lot.

Lots of airsofters are big into reenacting. It's also a lot more legal and safe than shooting blanks around like some groups do.

You may pay a little more to get period replicas but it's totally worth it. I was going to get in with a vietnam group but that fell through. I've got a thompson and period gear up the ass.

Reenactment and LARPing is entirely different. LARPing is gay, reenactment is not.

LARPing has a nerdy connotation for sure, but one could still refer to WW2 reenactments as LARPing; just like they could refer to recreating some Lord of the Rings battle as a reenactment.

Oh man, I laughed hard.

There are a couple of reenactment shows in Kent every summer - the War and Peace Show (more display than reenactment, actually), and the Military Odyssey, which runs for about four days and has a WWII battle complete with vehicles and everything each afternoon. It's pretty cool.

Lots of Nazi memorabilia on sale. Being sold by shifty looking Germans, or equally shifty looking English people with very short haircuts.

Hmmm...
