Zero-Projekt Special: Armor system

FIFE-based RPG Zero-Projekt is feeding us a lot of info lately. Next up: armor system. Be sure to check out the smooth animations for the different types of armor.<blockquote>Armors play a major role in ZERO, as these are the one and only way to effectively protect oneself from the various kinds of damage which are inflicted by weapons or environmental conditions. A newly created character doesn't have a amor class, like in many other known examples of this genre. Also there exists no global protection stat, radiation being the only exception.

A "naked" character's only protection against attacks, respectively the loss of HP points, is the so called dodge skill. It is determined by the attribute agility and the skill acrobatics. However, the dodge skill only affects the attacker's accuracy rate and requires that the target being attacked is able to use it (e.g. does not wear armors which lowers this stat).

Every character has different target areas. These are usually head, arms, legs and torso. In fights, even without being specificaly targeted, an attack always will hit a certain body part. For determining which part is hit from an attack without targetting, a chance accounting system is used.

Therefore it's essential to protect the target area as good as possible. That's why there will be armor parts like helms, body armor, bracers and leg splints instead of full armor</blockquote>

There is a 7th armor type that is not illustrated ...

Exotic armors

Don't want to cause a stampede, but 'exotic' is a term forever stalked by the 'erotic' in teen-aged dreams of Shangri-La.

Mass market RPG's are famous for prurient protection.

Bronze bikinis, titanium thongs, ballistic bustiers!

Perhaps Zero-P could apply for a product placement grant from Victoria's Secrets or Fredrick's Of Hollywood?

Wait, am I miss-directed, am I over reacting?
Well, at least this may pump up some interest.

Even in the far future Germans will use the MG-42 because it is just that awesome, much like the sweet sprite work.

Also we still have a lot of them in the army. :P

arent you guys talking about the MG3, I know I know its almost the same kind of wepon which is interesting when you think about that the mechanic is more then 60 year old.

Too Google!

...

Oh I see now. My German weapon knowledge is a little rusty. :P
Puts our SA80s to shame. :(

Hah. Yes. In a lot of games, the female armor models are utterly ridiculous. As if they had bulletprof breasts and thighs.

Everyone knows breasts are bulletproof.

Exotic armors

Seems to me it was intended to be Special armors, but Special is not a special enough way.. to say how special those armors really are; hence the Exotic 'title'.

[-glad I got that out of my system-]

Oh, no-es! My conscious has been PINGED!

Yes, Zero Project's design intent is certainly more noble then my implied back handed swing at 'video game armor', '+5 bikinis of bronze'.

Maybe I did it for Mr. Nudge, maybe I did it for 'teh lulz' and self gratuitous attention magnetism.
This 4too has his little ego to nourish too. So sorry to do the mental hygiene in public ...

Guilty of calculated misdirection. I would quote the 'horse' itself but this 3-31-09 @ 7 a.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time finds the above cited page blessed with a rewrite.
They have reorganized their text detail to our diminishing Web 2.0 attention span standards.

News is now briefed to their immediate point.

Details now found in Zero P forums.

Our armor concepts are designed to fit into our setting. This means in detail, that we will provide self-made armors which will have a post-war character and there will be pre-war armorparts which e.g. were used in WWI and WWII. (Both in military and civil aspects) So far this is pretty standard - that's why we will also provide modifications and enhancements the player can apply to his gear by using the crafting system. And there will be some exotic armors - which are only factored by certain factions.
...

""exotic armors"" seems to translate into 'custom' armor for specific factions.

Only guessing Unno, your elite bowling team might *roll* in gang colors graced with skull and bones on dramatic black!

The actual hook for this graphic chrome may be player/game custom features like DOW 'color your space marines'.

Gameplay reasons? May be a plus in distinguishing between rival factions wearing similar armors.

We don't know, so we'll all have to stay tuned to future Zero Project news.

And,

is that a 'bad' thing to do?

No, not "custom" armor in a color way. You can pick the items you want (helmet, boots,...) and put them together to one armor set, as far as I could get the idea into my head.
So, nothing like "my pink colored gang of death". ;)
