Zombie Apocalyse- OCC- General Discussion

Sounds like a blast. I love Zombie / Survival horror RP's- theory, movies, and videogames. (Have been playing Resident Evil Since the age of 10...) What do you think the era would be? Post appocalyptic? modern? Post modern? And would this be a Resident evil style infection? or - an old school - Unexplainable "Night Of The Living Dead" situation? or- one of the screwed up "Dawn Of The Dead" things- that goes against all previous zombie Theory? (XD)

I'll bite, sounds interesting, plus the role play board has been kind of dead lately...
Ok, so how do I go about creating the char, do I go for the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system or the C.O.C. one? I'm as green as spring grass so i could use some pointers with this.
But seeing how all of welsh's role plays worked out rather nicely I'm sure this one will be a lot of fun too.

P.S. What happened with the Empty World story? I mean it was all going great, the plot thickened and then everybody just lost interest and left... that story still has potential and potential is a terrible thing to waste.

dont worry about stats yet, c0ldst33ltrs4u. welsh will let us know in good time.

as for Empty World, i really dont remember what went wrong...

I think we started taking this into too many different directions. It's still a good idea, but it needs to be better structured. Depending on what happens with this... maybe we can breath life back into it or restart it.

I am making some characters up at the moment- the people you meet at a truck stop-. I am tempted to do with CoC character generation.

Let's see how it turns out.

More to come.

I'm interested...though I dearly would have liked to see Empty World continue, as this reminds me so much of that game.

Anyways, I am a bit curious as to why you chose a rural survival situation with zombies. Is it supposed to be widespread? I guess I ask because most zombie horror stuff usually takes place in urban areas, where the dangers are supposedly much more likely.

I think the truckstop was chosen as a meeting place because it's outside of the cities. So it isn't as dangerous as meeting in a city with zombies swarming all over the place.
It also gives the characters some thinking and talking time.
And besides, they can always decide to go to the cities later on.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't getting out of the city the secondary goal of all the parties in the zombie movies (the primary one being to survive)?

are you implying that the middle of nowhere cant be dangerous?

and no, quite a lot of zombie movies also feature people outside cities (people barricaded in a house cut off from everyone, people in a little rural village & so on). a rural setting can be just as dangerous, i assure you.

i think those movies are usually a bit better too. since 'getting out of the city' usually means excessive use of guns, a deus ex machina chopper & patched up busses turned into A-team-esk APC's.

maybe i also prefer it because i myself am not a resident of a big city (20 minutes away of 3 major cities though).

Well folks- I have been working on canned characters for all of you- ranging from truck drivers, to state troopers, to CDC doctors, EPA inspectors, a PI, a dog, an indian cook, a stupid co-ed, and more. I hope to have the list pretty soon.

I am open for character ideas but I do think we will stick with CoC rules posted above.

Also once the canned characters are given you can suggest changes. I also expect that you will probably get to play a few characters if you wish- as the body count will remain high.

As the story is told as a retrospective of two survivors, essentially all other characters are expendable. Be aware that mortality might be high.

Furthermore, while we will borrow heavily from Romero style zombies (shoot them in the head and they die, reanimated corpse, don't get bitten, etc) this will have a few more additive elements to give this a bit fresh.,

Why a truck stop in the middle of nowhere? Hmmm... A city might be overkill fast. Besides I am thinking of this more like Maximum Overdrive meets Night of the Living Dead.

Didn't you say you wanted us to play essentially ourselves in this? I don't mind either way, but understandably I am going to have different playing styles for each of them. I don't care if it is canned our ourselves but obviously I am going to be more attached to myself. For one thing, an explanation of why the hell I am in Nebraska, heh.

patched up busses turned into A-team-esk APC's.
Er, I liked the A-team, especially the older guy with white hair and who always had a cigar stub in the corner of his mouth ; also McGyver: now that man has skill!

I also have a few questions (I'm the inquisitive type):
- are we going to need to use the dice in the char sheets, because in this neck of the woods (Ro) the special dice might be a bit harder to find and surely overpriced. I did manage to find a dice simulator
http://www.geocities.com/prodigaldruid/xdy-dice.html so will it do?
- is this rp going to follow the tradition of black dudes and stupid people die first? I wouldn't want to end up picking chars that die during the first day or something....
- are the chars listed all the people present at the truck stop or are there a few others that become the first zombies? I mean zombies don't just pop out of the ground, do they?
- Any details on the skinhead's camp? How many? How many infested? What weapons do they have and can the be 'persuaded' to part with some of them?

I hope you don't mind me asking a lot of questions, it just means I'm interested... usually when I stop asking questions it means I am losing interest...

welsh & i either use real dice or http://invisiblecastle.com/rolldice.py
invisible castle has a nice system to prevent cheating, but thats hardly necessary if you trust eachother
i'm sure welsh can provide you with a bunch of CoC starter manuals. i myself only have the 1920's i think.

there is nothing to be afraid of. it's all quite basic & welsh aint a tightass keeper.

stupid guys will die first...

but with stupid, isnt meant low IQ. it's more about common sense. (at least thats what i assume)

as far as i can gather, those guys are at the truck stop. these are the peope that we will 'know'. many will wind up (un)dead.

i presume the 2 skins will be passing through the truckstop when hell breaks loose. i doubt there will be any link to the camp in the first chapter.

rather someone that's interested & asks a lot than a guy that joins & leaves after a week...

the last RP welsh & i did together, took 1 month to get all the characters approved & lined up :)
(but that wont be the case this time around)

That reminds me of one of my friend who was really picky about the codecs and subtitles for any movie. Watching a movie with that guy meant you first had to endure at least an hour of tweaking the player codecs, changing the player, changing the subtitles, the fonts, the colour, the size, the coordinates... you get the point... sometimes I think I have way too much patience
Anyway I'll get the dice sim you told me about and I'll have to look for the other materials, like a char template for the stats and some rule book. I mean we don't want this happening http://www.giantitp.com/Images/GuestWeek2005/oots0301.gif, do we? 8)

Nicely done Suaside-

Other players please make the changes and edits as necessary. I will be making a few changes to your characters and giving you your varied secrets over the next couple of days.

A bit of delay but we should be starting soon.

I have also contacted the Nebraska tourism department for some basic info on the region and doing a bit more research.

Some bad news-

I have asked Stompie to pick up other characters and he is not responding. Not sure if he is still with us. If not we need to recruit someone before moving forward.

Also, I some notes from a bad disk (back up was old) so I am delayed a bit.

I suspect if we can get a 5th player, we start next week. Sorry for the delay. Anyone you guys want to recruit?

Why not steal one of those players from the Cairo game, welsh?

Anyways, I need a few days to finish my characters up anyways. I presume I am playing the priest now as my 'hotel' character, yes?

I think that's for the best Fireblade. Horst might be more involved at this point than I had originally planned.

I will be sending out secrets later. Will try to do a lay out of the T-Bone and where all the characters are currently standing or doing at the beginning of the game. You guys can take it from there.

Expect pm's from me later today.
