It's not a thread about egyptian chick fucking a goat. If you don't understand why I picked that particular text, then maybe you're not here because you find it interesting, but to further the ridiculous notion that animal shows somehow serve as indication that the participants are all into bestiality.

This doesn't suggest bestiality, but does not necessarily mean there is any other reason, such as worship/reverence of goats. It looks to me like the watchers were simply watching, you see similar watchers around car accidents and such. Though I cannot fathom any other reason (besides bestiality or religious practices) for this occurence.
I have not read the article though, just the extract you gave.

The point of this post was to show you, my dimwitted chums, that at one point in history bestiality was not only not seen as immoral, but was actively and publically practiced by one of the most powerful profession at that time - the clergy. Unlike zoophiles of today, they didn't do it because they were mentally disturbed or had psycho-sexual disorders - no, it was done as a part of a religious ritual to be performed in public for the good of all. They were in fact quite sane enough for Herodotus to take them seriously.
In any case, this can be seen as a curious historic fact, a glimpse of a wildly different culture than that we have today, as well as give you ammunition in future debates with a religious person, should you ever want to, or to refute claims that norms of sexual behavior are fixed and unchangeable.
Granted, it's not as interesting as the endless chatter about how much Bush sucks and how this culture of ours is so full of hypocricy, but if you're sick of the "popular" topics of the day, it'll be at least amusing, if not thought-provoking.
