FO3 Questions from a wanderings savant.

Anarchosyn

Still Mildly Glowing
Over the intervening years since FO3 was announced by Bethesda I've been intermittently following the press. Personally, I fall in the "well, they'll probably screw it up but at least it's something new" camp that cynically expects the worst but feeds the Bethesda machine more quarters than it should never-the-less.

With that said I had some quick questions that I still haven't found answered by any of the recent previews:

  1. Is the original music going to be included in the game? By this I mean the atmospheric music that permeated most of the game play of FO1 and / or FO 2.
  2. This certainly does look to be "Oblivion with guns" but one element of Oblivion I actually enjoyed were the books, is Bethesda looking to introduce this kind of depth to Fallout? It's really the best aspect of the Elder Scrolls series.
  3. Have they released a quest count or general comparison to other games (i.e. past FOs or Oblivion)? I know the land mass and NPC count is smaller than Oblivion, but...
  4. Are all the original FO weapons and armor making a return? I know new stuff will be added.
  5. One of FO2's greatest failings was the fact certain plot points forced combat. Any word how good a charismatic , fast talking scientist with no tagged combat skills would do in FO3?
  6. Are Traits in?
  7. Is this game using Radiant AI? *Please* tell me somebody has official commented that the AI won't be Oblivion retarded.
  8. Lastly, are negative drug effects and negative perks still in?

Thanks for any and all responses.

So many questions, I will answer the first.

Music will be composed by Inon Zur. Consider it a good thing if you like epic music(he worked on Baldur's Gate 2), consider it bad if you like the dark taste of the Fallout universe. The samples are available at FO3 website.

The original Mark Morgan tracks will not be included for different reasons. One being is that Bethesda is not interested in anything which connects this franchise to the past. They have transformed it as they see fit... Second is that those tracks are copyrighted.

No. The compsoer is Inon Zur, and he apparently differs significantly from Makr Morgan we know and love.

2. This certainly does look to be "Oblivion with guns" but one element of Oblivion I actually enjoyed were the books, is Bethesda looking to introduce this kind of depth to Fallout? It's really the best aspect of the Elder Scrolls series.

One can only hope that they would include books... but given that most Oblvion books were copypasta from Morrowind and there's nothing in terms of book content to import from Fallout, they might not be included.

3. Have they released a quest count or general comparison to other games (i.e. past FOs or Oblivion)? I know the land mass and NPC count is smaller than Oblivion, but...

Nope.

4. Are all the original FO weapons and armor making a return? I know new stuff will be added.

Unlikely, and even those that do, differ (compare the 10mm Pistol from FO3 to the FO1 one).

5. One of FO2's greatest failings was the fact certain plot points forced combat. Any word how good a charismatic , fast talking scientist with no tagged combat skills would do in FO3?

One of the devs finished the game with killing just one radscorpion, so a pacifist approach seems possible...

6. Are Traits in?

Merged with perks.

7. Is this game using Radiant AI? *Please* tell me somebody has official commented that the AI won't be Oblivion retarded.

Bethesda claims they improved the RAI. Whether they did is up to debate.

8. Lastly, are negative drug effects and negative perks still in?

Seems not, though that's idle speculation.

Just a small correction from me. Although credited for that, Mark Morgan didn't compose all music for Fallout games. It would be more appropriate to say he remixed / altered the original music.

Could you elaborate that a bit more? I thought that the original music was composed, recorded and mixed by Mark Morgan. If this is not the case then please tell me the original composer's name or a link would be welcome.....

Concerning the negative effects of drugs, I read somewhere that either buffout or psycho increases damage by 25%, with no negative side effects. This might have been in the Brother None/Suacides preview.
