I remember the day I bought F1. I had just arrived from a party weekend with friends. I remembered that I passed all weekend thinking about Fallout because we departed Friday morning and that was the day Fallout was released in Portugal. Oh, happy days… Those were happy days when I played Fallout for the first time. I remember I even had to buy water from the merchants because time was running out, so young I was… I also remember the first week of this site, and in spite of watching it grow in the shadow (I’ve posted for the first time here last month) I always accompanied its progress. At least once a week I checked it to see some news and other fans ideas from the forums. So I really want to thank Bio and all the others that make this site the best one related Fallout.
I really don’t understand why Interplay would do something like this but they’ve done it and this time I’m not going to suffer no more. I ain´t gonna count the days no more, with hope for a F3 that ain´t gonna come. Interplay is going down and will take F3 to the grave with them (I don’t know if u realized yet but they hate fans…). Damm, I was even going to offer my help of technical biomechanical questions, like the implants in VC. I was going to learn HTML so I could build a webpage dedicated to Fallout in Portuguese to celebrate. Now all is lost…
After three tears from F3 had fallen from my face I became nostalgic. I heard “Maybe” and then inserted the F1 CD to remember good times. But I found something unexpected, something that in all that sorrow made me smile. I found a small directory named “Goodies”. Inside it there was an old screensaver and a file named “main” that according to the “readme” file it is a prototype game of Fallout. But I’m unable to run it! Why? I’ve Windows XP, is it because of that?? And what’s the game like. Does anyone have played it? Can someone please help me?
The “readme” says this:
“Here are some goodies for you. The first is a Fallout screen saver,
named FALLOUT.SCR. Just copy this file into your Windows directory,
and use the Display Control Panel to set your screen saver to Fallout.
Of course, this screen saver requires Win95.
The second is the original prototype version of Fallout. It was written
in 1994 as a test for an isometric, hex-based engine. Just run MAIN.EXE
to see the game. You can paint the scenery and move the knight around
with the mouse. Just press Quit to end the prototype. Wow, Fallout has
come a LONG way, eh?
Enjoy.
The Fallout Team.
September 1997.”
I think I bought the game before Sep of 1997, so how can this be?? Oh well, another X-File… Like the UFO one taht Bio made us all search through the night in vain...
Thank you all.
