I've had the game for a while, but I've never really played it much before now and as a result I've never really appreciated it much. I've been missing a lot! Initially, I thought that the class system was restrictive, and in a way it is. However, BIS crammed a lot of little details into the game making it worth playing as the different classes; they essentially used the classes to give the game more depth and replayability.

For example, just a few minutes ago, after becomming a Mage, I began learning the Unbroken Circle of Zerthimon that Dak'kon had with him. With each level of the circle, I gained experience (Quite a bit of experience, actually. I was a level 5 Mage before I left Mebbeth's hut) and a new spell. Everything was moving along great until I finished learning the Sixth Circle of Zerthimon. At that point, I discovered that I had surpassed even Dak'kon in my knowledge of Zerth! I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but what followed was one of the most interesting exchanges I've ever seen in a game.

What's most remarkable to me, though, is that I spent probably 30 - 45 minutes with just one object and one character in 4 CDs of game! This game was a bargain!

Talking to all the characters can usually result in boosted stats and helpful information.

Yes, the game is extremely deep, and I would say it is up there with Fallout in detail and RPG depth, certainly much more than Fallout 2. The 1 million words really makes the game, I found myself loading up the game just to read all the paths.

If you haven't already, copy ALL four CDs to the hard drive, the use space is worth it. It speeds up the load times by AT LEAST 20 times. Instead of taking literally minutes to load areas like the Lower Ward (the largest map), it only takes a matter of seconds. Doing that really makes the gameplay fo smoothly and contributes to a much more playable experience.

BTW, what part of the game are you in?

I had all the CDs copied to my HD at one point, but I lost interest and deleted them all. Since then, my HD has been mysteriously shrinking; I can't find anything that I want to uninstall to make room, yet I couldn't do that again without sacrificing my swap space.

"what part of the game are you in?"

Not very far. I spent a lot of time in the Hive doing all of the quests and talking to everyone so I haven't even found the bronze sphere yet.

Booooooooooooooo...

My 3rd PS:T disc has a huge gouge taken out of it on the edge so I can't install it!

And my Fallout 2 CD has somehow been keyed up too so I get 3/4s of the way through installing before that fails!

Man that's suckage! I keep my CDs in pristine condition.

Well you could buy the $10 Fallout 1/Fallout 2 bundle at Fred Meyers or wherever they sell it...

Heh, I've got two copies of Fallout 2 now because I bought the two-pack for Fallout 1 but already owned Fallout 2.

I usually do too! All my other cds are working fine and dandy and have little to no scratch marks on them, it's just these two which are giving me bother. And I'm not gonna dish out another $30/40 or however much PS:T is nowadays...

Try emailing/calling Interplay and ask if you can have your CD exchanged for a new one. Usually they will be really nice about it.

Ok, thanks for the tip.

Ugh...

It's really unfortunate that not even PS:T escaped the calling-card BIS bugs. Still, it's a testament to the game that I don't mind too much.

Yeah, but after the game is patched, the bugs are far and few between. There are only a few bugs, most notable, the ones that will net you a lot of cash, a lot of experience, a lot of stat upgrades, a lot of spells, a lot of powerful artifacts, and a lot more cash (a lot more than the previous way). I used them when I wanted to explore the game with only the best stats (after my third or so time playing the game).

I could give you some financial strategies in today's Sigilian markets. One is simply buying high and selling low. Another is repeatedly abusing bribery. Neither of them affect your character's personality (evil or good, lawful or chaotic).

Try being Lawful Good throughout the game, it has benefits later on.

If you're willing to be really evil and kill one of your NPCs you can get the most powerful spell in the game: Power Word Kill. You can also get it other ways.

Who's your favorite NPC so far? I like Morte, he's hilarious.

RE: Ugh...

"the bugs are far and few between"

Oh, I'm not just talking about inexplicable game crashes. For instance, I joined the Godsmen and got access to the secret project, except that no one would let me in to see it, regardless. It's kind of frustrating.

"One is simply buying high and selling low."

Uhh... shouldn't that be the other way around?

"Who's your favorite NPC so far?"

I like Dak'kon, personally. He lacks the humor of Morte, but I like his personality nonetheless. He's also useful because he can id the crap I find when I'm not a mage.

I haven't tried using Ignus or Fall-From-Grace (or whatever her name is) yet, but I did have them temporarily join my party for the xp.

While we're on the subject of NPCs, I've got a question for you: Which is your [em]least[/em] favorite? Mine would have to be Ignus; he felt almost anticlimactic after everything I went through to rescue him.

You must have a screwed up install or something, because I was able to see the thing easily. Did you talk to that leader guy again to get the password?

Try stealing from the forge equipment dude in the Foundry.

Um... yeah... or it could be used to describe the situation for the shopkeeper.

What's nice about him too is that you can switch between fighter and mage just by asking him at any time. When you have Annah, you can switch between all three!

Have you talked to Ingus while being a mage? You can get some good spells that way.. though you lose some HP permanently. Remember, save all your body parts!

I obtained and then left Ingus. He's not very useful to me simply because he's *only* fire-based and a crappy fighter.

Buy the Modron cube! Don't talk to it though or you will drop an entire level in "Lawfulness" (or maybe you want to be Chaotic?).

RE: Ugh...

Thanks for the shopkeeper tip, I'll try to find him.

I do have the cube, and I found the dungeon, but easy and medium are boring while hard is a bit too much for my characters. I take from all the lenses I found that I eventually get a modron in my party, but I haven't found out how, yet.

You've got to explore every nook and crannie. The best strategy with the super bots is to save/load and to use Morte's Litany of Curses on one of them. That special ability of his has come in handy more times than I can imagine... it's also good early in the game for luring Black Albashis into attacking you without having your less durable characters get hurt (Morte is pretty damned durable).

RE: Ugh...

I'll try that, but with an AC of -2 and comparable hit points to Morte, Dak'kon's probably my most durable PC right now. Of course, my AC is only one and I have, by far, more hit points than ANY of my other PCs...

I dunno... even with an AC of -7, Dakkon always seemed to take more damage than Morte for me.
