So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Yes, this may sound indeed like a silly question, but if you take a closer look to it, worldmapdesign is pretty important, as you spend a lot of time in many games on it. Ofcourse, its mostly in RPG games though. ;)

I am just a sucker for such little details and how many time developers spent into it.

So, what worldmap in terms of design (be it usability, "beautiness" etc) you like the most?

I like the Fallout 1 map:

Probably the most - I can't even explain why, it just looks damn good, somehow totally depressing and melancholic, and the amount of detail in it is awesome. The whole art-direction is just superb.

Since FO is probably an obvious choice for many people here I am interested in other opinions too. :)

Even though it's completley arbitrary, BFME's world maps always looked nice.

While not strictly, a 'World Map' the 'Universe map' of Mass Effect I, is one of the best overworld navigation devices, ever imo.

I love this game and everything about it.
That's a pretty good one.

The other one that comes to mind immediately is the world map from Ultima IV, which came printed on a nice piece of cloth so you could fold it up. I probably still have mine packed away somewhere.

How about this one - the new Fallout 2 map...:P

I'm building a new version, by removing all of the guide lines...I should probably make the terrain even darker/moodier.

Yep, already saw it .Pixote, nice work as usual. ;)
It's a nice mixture of FO2 and FO1 worldmap.
But yes, could be a bit darker and the big desert in the middle could be a bit more detailed, like on Lexx' FO1/2 Worldmap. ;)

And if we are about to show off our stuff, here is an example of a worldmap I am making. :P

Hmm, thanks for reminding me. The environment was amazing and I always wanted to see what was out there but the gameplay was so boring I don't think I ever made it past balmora. This was seven years ago though, maybe my tastes have changed.

I've always thought that games that passes in the real world are much more interesting, I'm not sure why hahah, but I love realism in games. So, definitely, the world map that gives the biggest boner of all are those of games that plays in our world haha.

WoW maps are cool too

The nostalgia and usefullness, I had that on my wall along with the expansion pack ones because they were so usefull as it had no easy peasy quest arrow to follow.

... and I am going to plug Shelter's WIP worldmap here as well. It's not really about the map texture, but overall feel.

I loved Fallout's map and tried to expand on the idea.

Space Rangers 2. A randomly generated world map for every new game. The randomosity! A great idea, and near-infinite replayability.

So... stylish.... I think I'm in love :D

And I agree on the Vvadenfell map as one of the best just for it's usefullness in finding thing in-game.
